Human eyes see from just below 400nm (purple) to just above 700nm (red). This range is small in comparison to other animals and wavelengths that exist on the earth. Infrared radiation has a wavelength of 1000nm to 1mm.
Pictures taken in infrared provide an eyeglass into the realm of the invisible and surreal in the world, and that is beyond normal human perception.
